Taiwan Seeks Strategic Partnership with Washington Through Artificial Intelligence

Taiwan is aiming to strengthen its position as a strategic partner of the United States in artificial intelligence following an agreement to cut tariffs and boost bilateral investments in advanced technology sectors.

Deputy Prime Minister Cheng Li-chiun said in Washington that negotiations focused on expanding joint investment in artificial intelligence and semiconductors, reinforcing resilient supply chains and long-term cooperation.

US officials noted that Taiwanese companies plan to inject massive investments to expand chipmaking, energy projects, and artificial intelligence technologies in the United States, marking one of the largest industrial investment drives in US history.

The move aligns with efforts by the Trump administration to localize advanced chip manufacturing, alongside warnings of steep tariffs if production is not based on US soil.

In Taiwan, major tech firms welcomed the deal, pledging continued domestic investment and global expansion, while markets watch for parliamentary approval amid political debate.
