Washington Detains Russian Oil Tanker as Naval Blockade on Venezuela Tightens

The United States has intensified its maritime measures aimed at curbing Venezuelan oil exports, announcing the detention of a Russian oil tanker in the North Atlantic and the interception of another sanctioned vessel in the Caribbean.

US authorities confirmed that the detention of the Russian oil tanker followed violations of imposed sanctions, in an operation coordinated between the Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Defense, with operational support from British forces.

Vessel tracking data indicated that the tanker, which recently changed its name and flew the Russian flag, was heading toward Venezuela without carrying cargo, raising suspicions of attempts to bypass US restrictions.
