Washington Considers Tariffs on Chinese Chips, Delays Implementation to 2027
The administration of US President Donald Trump announced plans to impose tariffs on imports of semiconductors from China, aiming to counter what it described as Beijing’s accelerated efforts to dominate the global chip industry.

The decision’s implementation will be delayed until June 2027, with the tariff rate to be announced at least 30 days before it takes effect.

The move is based on the results of a year-long investigation into Chinese semiconductor imports launched under former President Joe Biden, which found concerns related to unfair competition and its impact on the US industry.

These measures come amid rising trade tensions between Washington and Beijing, as the United States seeks to protect advanced technology sectors and strengthen domestic semiconductor capabilities.
