Global Billionaire Count Hits Record High Driven by Tech Boom

The number of billionaires worldwide reached an unprecedented level in 2025, supported by strong gains in technology stocks and financial assets, according to UBS’s annual report.

The report showed that the total number of billionaires rose to 2,919 by early April, the highest figure since data collection began in 1995, while their combined wealth climbed to a new record.

Total billionaires wealth reached about $15.8 trillion, marking a 13% annual increase driven by higher valuations of tech firms and the emergence of new wealthy individuals across various sectors.

Technology-driven surge

Technology-linked companies, particularly those tied to artificial intelligence, boosted billionaire fortunes, with tech billionaire assets growing by nearly a quarter to around $3 trillion.

The United States accounted for the largest share of billionaires with 924 individuals, followed by China with 470, while tariffs, geopolitical risks and inflation were highlighted as key concerns for 2026.
